“I really love this book!
In many ways, it is the sequel to the book, Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches, by the author and her husband, Master Zhongxian Wu. With that text, the reader has the opportunity to get a firm grasp on one of the most esoteric and confusing aspects of Chinese astrology (TianGan DiZhi).
In this work, Dr. Taylor Wu leads the reader into the practical applications of the GanZhi BaZi in a clear, step-by-step manner. There is simply no other book like this available! Until now, the traditional calculation method presented in Calculating the BaZi has passed down orally, from teacher to student. What a treasure!
I am a little embarrassed to admit that I found some of the calculations to be a bit of a slog at first. With daily practice, however, it really does get easier and easier. I definitely agree with the previous comment that it is preferable to go through the workbook in paperback format.
I recently came across the book’s website (calculatingthebazi.com), which has a very helpful Q&A section in which people can write in with any specific calculation questions as they go through the exercises (or check to see if anyone else has had the same question).
I found the case studies at the end truly fascinating and am inspired to learn how to use Chinese astrology to help others.
I am so excited about this book!”
“I only started reading this book, but so far I’m very happy with it. Some real valuable information in here. I’ve been looking for a long time for a book that explains the BaZi… Finally! The only reason I’m giving it a 4 is because I wish I ordered the paperback edition. There are quite a number of tables and charts that you need to flip between to do the calculations, so it feels a little slow and frustrating on the Kindle. I have bookmarked the tables and charts as I go, but a printed version of this book would work easier, because you will be able to flag the pages and get to them quicker.
I may still buy the paperback as well.
Thanks Karin! Good job!”
“An excellent book, especially for beginners. There are a couple of extra points which may benefit even the most seasoned practitioners (eg. the MingGong Branch details). Shortly, it teaches perfectly what it promises: calculating the BaZi. And one cannot miss the wonderful contribution of Master Zhongxian Wu. Highly recommended!”
